Odometer in, odometer out
The honest mileage log is the one your tax authority accepts: a trip, a start reading, an
end reading, a purpose. Distance is the difference — typed once, no mental arithmetic —
and rows whose purpose is Business are valued at the rate you set, so the claim for the
year is a SUMIFS. Business rows are green; a reading that goes backwards is red.
Pro: fuel and months
The Fuel sheet is the other log a car keeps: each full tank with its odometer, litres and
cost. Consumption is litres over the distance since the previous fill — which is why every
fill has to be a full one — and cost per unit comes from the same pair. Monthly lays out
trips, distance by purpose, claim and fuel by month.
Checked, not just built
The build recalculates both workbooks in LibreOffice and in a second, independent engine and
compares twenty-six values — distances, claims, the year summary, consumption between fills,
the monthly table — against numbers computed outside Excel.
